Limited numbers were used by Germany's World War II ally, Japan, though the weapon became readily available on the black market after the war. Accurate and reliable, it still sees limited use in several armed forces today despite being the Walther PP series being discontinued in 1992.

The Walther PPK also became famous for being the gun Hitler killed himself with and as the signature pistol for James Bond.
