The Tematlatl is a sling of Central America. It was the Special Weapon of the Aztec Jaguar.
Description
The Tematlatl sling was made with fibers from the maguey plant (Agave americana). The stones were prepared ahead of time, and were about the size of chicken eggs.
Use
The Tematlatl was one of the most effective weapons used against the Spanish conquistadors, with accounts of the weapon killing horses and injuring armored Spaniards. It is believed that the stones could be thrown further than an arrow could be shot.
