Uses[]

The MAS-36 was adopted by France in 1936 to replace the earlier Berthier and Lebel series of rifles. However, budget constraints initially limited production and the MAS-36 was usually reserved for front-line infantry units. Captured MAS-36 rifles would be used by the Germans, under the designation of Gewehr 242(f), and later would be used by the Viet Minh and Khmer Rouge.
