Hauberk

The Hauberk is a chain mail shirt. It was the armor of William the Conqueror.

Description

A hauberk is a type of chain mail shirt that reaches to at least mid-thigh and has sleeves. The Bayeux Tapestry (which depicts the events leading up to William the Conqueror's invasion of Britain and the Battle of Hastings) shows Norman soldiers wearing knee-length hauberks with three-quarters length sleeves. Hauberks of this length typically had a split from the hem to the crotch to allow the wearer to ride a horse.

The one demonstrated in the show was worn over Gamberson, a very light leather armor.
