The Claymore (from Scottish Gaelic claidheamh mòr, literally "very big sword" is a large two-handed sword used by the Highlanders of Scotland. It was the mid-range weapon of William Wallace.

Description

The average Claymore was about 55" in total length, with a 42" straight, two-edged blade. Most Claymores had a wheel pommel often capped with a crescent nut, and a guard with two down-sloping arms ending in quatrefoils.

Use

The Claymore was used two-handed and was primarily a slashing weapon, although it could be used for stabbing. The overall weight of the blade combined with the strength of a two-handed swing allowed it to sever heads with ease.
