The Browning Hi-Power was designed in response to a French military requirement for a new service pistol, known as the Grande Puissance (literally "high power"), in the 1930's. It was used in World War II, both by the Allies and Axis powers. It is still in use today, and is one of the most widely used military pistols of all time, having been used by the armed forces of more than 50 nations.

The Browning Hi-Power was pitted against the TT-33 of Pol Pot in eliminating two targets at phase 3 of the first test. Although the TT-33 finished the test at 2:02, the edge was given to the Browning Hi-Power for its 13-round capacity and heavier caliber.

Durring some speeches, Saddam would shoot guns in the air while infront of a crowd. The guns included rifles and browning hi-powered pistol.
