Revolvers still are produced today, but are less common. The Mauser C96 was available to civilians and police forces as well as military units upon introduction. In addition to Germany, it was used by Spain, Italy, Austria-Hungary, Italy, the Ottoman Empire, and the Republic of China, and was widely popular with British officers prior to World War I, with Winston Churchill himself favoring it. It saw action in both World Wars, the Spanish Civil War, Chinese Civil War, and the Estonian War of Independence.
